About the community

The Barrett’s family played an important role in the history of Jamaica. Hercie Barrett and her family migrated from England, landing in Jamaica in 1655. In the years that followed, the family acquired substantial wealth and influence. They controlled much of the island’s mining and agriculture, becoming one of the most prominent plantation owners of Jamaica.

The first Barretts owned over 84,000 acres of land and 2,000 slaves in the Trelawny and St James parishes. The original family home was Cinnamon Hill Great House in St James.

Johnny Cash bought Cinnamon Hill in the early 70s, the country-and-western singer, along with his wife, called it home for 30 years until his death.

The Greenwood Great House, which still stands today, was owned by the Barretts as well.

Guest Reviews

I had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek at Beyond the Sea. This small hotel sits on a hill overlooking the sea with incredible views!

The rooms are to die for!! IPTV in each room, a coffee maker, and a mini fridge for comfort.

The property itself is immaculate. I think it’s perfect. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, out of the way, and away from the busy city’s hustle and bustle, this is the place for you.

I’ll be going back, so stay tuned for more updates!

The white sand beaches and turquoise waters are the main draws, offering boundless golf opportunities, snorkeling, parasailing, and cruising on a catamaran. And Jamaica’s scenic North Coast Highway runs through Montego Bay, providing an artery for striking out on popular day tours to Dunn’s River Falls, Ocho Rios, or Negril.
